It was very clever and very sharp, all the things it says on the jacket and more. But for my tastes, it was a bit too dark. I liked it when I was reading it, it was a page turner, but then I had to kind of psyche myself up to open it up again at the next sitting. I liked the last several chapters the best actually. I wanted to know what happened next, now that everything was bared between the two. It felt more like a beginning than an end.

I think I would've liked the book better if I read it before watching the movie. The book is slow and I hated Nick and Amy so much that I had to force myself to finish it. Three stars for subject matter.

Wow. I devoured this book in just a few days because I just had to know how it ended. I thought it was brilliantly written, with wonderful twists, and vibrant, incredibly complex characters that you love to hate, but also can't help but admit you understand (deep down). I really don't want to give anything in the plot away because the best part of the book is its ability to surprise and pull you in deeper and deeper to this twisted, messed up world. But all I can say is that I love how this story about a completely fucked up relationship still resonates with normal, well-balanced people.

Very mysterious and surprising. I liked it a lot, it made me want to read for hours which isn't something I've experienced since reading harry potter.

Where do I begin...
I'm annoyed. I'm annoyed that more than half of this book was just build up and set up. Slow, drawn out build up. Just when I thought it would pick up (and it did in a few spots; I definitely had OMG moments), the back and forth of Nick and Amy trying to get the upper hand with each other was dragged out as well. I give this 3 stars b/c the author has great diction - she can turn a phrase beautifully (though she could cut back on the SAT words a bit; a little overdone. But I guess characters who are writers would speak that way, especially characters who are 'playing' characters if that makes any sense). And she managed to create a truly loathsome person in Amy. Was there anything redeeming about her, or Nick for that matter? Those 2 delusional psychos deserve each other. But, I find it hilarious that people call this fast-paced. I pushed through it b/c I just wanted it to end. I pushed b/c I was waiting to feel that excitement that everyone else felt when they were reading it. I just felt let down. All that build up is far too disproportional to the resolution, if that's what you can call it.

Couldn't put it down and was never sure what was going to happen next. It was a page turner and will make a fun movie. Wonderful, fun book to read.
