Dated.   None of the characters are interesting, and they are all spoiled.  A waste of time.

Everytime I read this book, I discover something new. Oh, Lea! Oh, Cheri! Regret is ageless and spares no one.

Colette worked on a pair of vivid canvas that vaguely resembled the intertwined paths of an unexpected couple. The thread which ties their lives is fine, but it was clear from the very beginning.

And as a painter knows where to place light and shadow, Colette thought that blue and pink were two distinct yet indiscernible colors.
Blue is associated with sadness, but also freedom and loyalty, and what better words to describe our protagonist? Chéri wasn't an animal, but he was treated as such.
On the other hand, pink embodies feminity, playfulness and warmth, a list of characteristics that disappear from Léa's life when she hits her sixties.

Tempus fugit amor manet, and as horrifying as it may be, there is no better remedy than death to escape this torment called "love".
