Faye Longchamp is back home for a while, doing coursework and working for her friend/father figure Douglas Everett, cataloging archaeological treasures for his Museum of American Slavery. She uncovers something pretty spectacular and valuable...and then people she knows start getting themselves killed, and it looks like she might be next. Added to her grief and frustration is the fact that her boyfriend is a tad too controlling and envious of her best friend...and she has no clue who is trying to kill everyone she knows or why. But she'd better figure it out fast, using her sharp wits and excellent research skills...

Faye is BACK HOME on her island in Florida! I enjoyed this immensely, being back on her island with her friends and loved ones. The readers haven't seen her on her home turf since the first book, so there's a feeling of homecoming for readers and characters alike. These books are just so SMART, and I love Faye so much - I can't stay away!

I was glad that Faye and Joe were back home on Joyeuse in this one. I loved the way the author tied civil war history into the history of Faye's family. And Faye and Joe-- sigh.

I love that Faye is saving her own butt with Joe's help! No more saved-by-the-big-strong-guy thing here. I also, as always, love the juxtaposition between current times narrative and source material that affects the archaeological story - this time letters and oral history about civil war times. I am sad about who died, though. Douglas had so much more story to tell.

While the plot is rather suspect and the motivations of the characters are difficult to follow, I breezed through this bool. Nothing like treasure fiction to keep me reading.
