A worthy, entertaining and engrossing final chapter in the trilogy. I continue to enjoy the world that the author has created, and she’s wrestling with some important issues: how cycles of violence and revenge can be broken, how people can keep fighting for what’s right even in the face of seemingly hopeless odds. This was a tome (over 700 pages), but it flew by.

I read this still reeling from election results and it is the first time I have been able to contemplate hope again so. I guess five stars.

Wow, closing out a trilogy with by far the strongest book in the series is a neat trick. A lot of good payoffs here, amid deftly handled pacing and “epic” mythological world expansion. I wouldn’t blame anyone for falling off books one or two, but this is a really lovely conclusion for anyone who vibes with the series.

He [...] served the Nahids, clinging to their assurance that the shafit who screamed and begged for mercy [...] were not real people: they were invaders, soulless deceptions plotting the destruction of his people. His family. It became easier to believe as the bodies piled up. For it had to be the truth.
If it wasn’t the truth, Dara was a monster, a murderer.
And Dara wasn’t a monster.

He was only following orders.

è stata giustificata e superata in modo troppo conveniente.

Stand for justice, be a light, and remember what it is we were promised by the One who knows better.
With every hardship comes ease.
