Lola gets her grampa to make her pigtails -- they are wonderful and creative but the school has a uniform policy. Lola works on finding ways to advocate for what she wants.

Love that her mom is a policewoman turned supervisor, that her grandfather hates getting up in the morning and is a tattooed ex Navy artist.

Love that Lola doesn't always get her way, but does manage to regroup and negotiate when denied. In the end, they compromise on quarterly "spirit week" rather than all the time expression. The direct action that Lola's class takes in order to protest is funny and clever as well -- especially bad smell day.

Not entirely sure that the whole book wasn't written just for the extremely large pun on page 86. I do love Charlotte's Web, but wow, it's a stinker.
