I don't want this review to come across as the old joke of the food was so terrible and in such small portions because I enjoyed this book immensely. Fun story, killer art. But I think it is time for me to take a Star Wars sabbatical. One of the frustrating things about the last installment of The Skywalker saga is all the homework that comes with it. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars comics and shows and movies. But when you have to read a book to understand a movie. Well. Sigh. It is one thing to have needed to watch the prior installments but factoring in a comic series as mandatory too. Welp, it takes the fun out of being a fan and have the option to partake in as little or as much as you want. And I think this is one more mandatory item to understand Kylo's arc in the last movie.

Again, fun story (and I wish longer than 4 issues) but it should be supplemental and enjoyable on its own

i once heard that if you tell someone enough times who they are, they’ll eventually conform to the label you gave them and that kinda looks like what happened with Ben Solo but like make it sci-fi

This was such a great dive into the character of Ben Solo and Kylo Ren, and as a glimpse into the making of one of the most complex villains in mainstream science fiction we've seen in a while, they couldn't have done better in the movies themselves.

The only thing is... I don't know if Soule and Sliney were joking on Twitter, when they mentioned spending a weekend in a cabin with Adam Driver to get references? But given the quality of this book, I would not be shocked to learn it was true.

Issues 2 and 3 were *exquisite*. Issues 1 and 4 were narratively weaker, and issue 4 wrapped up too quickly when it could have been fantastic with a few more pages. So why is Kylo Ren the way he is? I was worried that this comic would be too poor little rich boy to feel realistic, but it balances Kylo's feelings of powerlessness with the restless potential underneath.
