The book has an interesting structure.
We get to know the main character, the title character, through the lens of other characters first.
Spoiler

Was tempted to give this a go as it was a quick thriller (and initially I mistakenly thought it was part of the Agatha Rasin series). I thought this book was awful. The only slightly redeeming factor was the very brief descriptions of the Scottish countryside and atmosphere, everything else wasn't good at all. The text hasn't aged well (use of the R word), and general misogynistic tropes and language. Female characters were often described negatively and their descriptions (I.e fat and bossy) were negative assesments of their character, relying on stereotypes. The primary detective's voice was inconsistent, on one line he would have a Scottish accent the other he wouldn't.
I suppose in a sense the writing was easy to read but I would definitely not read the series. If I'm in a positive and forgiving mood I might attempt an Agatha Rasin book from the author, but I won't be rushing.
