This is one of my new favorite books. I loved how the author developed each of the characters and wrote great learnings into the character’s developments. I value how important maintaining the characters’ morals in the end was, especially after all their mistakes.

This was a beautiful story.

This book starts out appearing to be a story about one thing but then turned out to be something completely different.  I thought it was insightful, and reminds you that sometimes you don't really know people as well as you think.   Loved the music references, not sure how I feel about the religious ones.. but it is a complex book that leaves one with complex thoughts afterwards.

there are many intense subjects broached in this book, despite that, it is a hopeful book that reminds teens that while the world may feel against them at times, there are allies. Even though they are sometimes difficult to find.

I liked this a lot more than I like most YA, the reflections on loss, grief, anger, chosen family, immigration, love and faith were beautifully woven together through complicated, grieving characters. Besides the HS bully and the youthful and kind/calm Imam (have to keep some YA flatness/tropes) all the characters were more sympathetic and complex than I expected. I cried at the end. Would recommend!

I love all of Sabaa’s work, but I’m not much of a fan of the contemporary genre. Even so, I loved this book and it’s the quickest I’ve finished a book in over a year.
