man this volume pulled hard on my latent maria/yusuke feelings

i don't want them to date necessarily! but their relationship is one of my favourites? so much love and mirroring!

that's part of what makes maria and shintaro work for me too actually. i feel like the story's been neglecting shin/maria lately, like my investment in her relationships with yusuke and shintaro comes from the narrative actually showing how their characters play off each other and drawing attention to their similarities

i'm willing to ship shin/maria! i remember actively doing so in earlier volumes! but all the contrived obstacles means there hasn't been much of the character work i need to go all in for a pairing

also re: contrived obstacles AUGH that ending whyyyyyyy

at least the eros short story afterwards was cute u_u

Another fun volume for the most part. I'm glad to see Maria continue to open up to others, and finally find some happiness. When she defended Shintaro at the beach and somehow got the others to understand him, I was so proud of her. He's a funny guy. I appreciate his upbeat attitude and persistence in being by Maria's side, despite the fact that he can tell she loves Shin.

Poor Shin. He's finally worked up the nerve to tell Maria everything, and then he finds her hugging Yusuke and crying instead of inside at his concert. Of course, he is totally misunderstanding their relationship, but he doesn't know that. All Shin knows is that when he asked Maria where she was, she never mentioned Yusuke. Yes, everything she said about listening to his concert is true, and she was really alone at the time, but from Shin's perspective, it seems more likely that Maria's lying to him about being alone. They just need to all sit down to have an honest conversation about who likes who.

That guy that attacked Maria was nutso! I hope he didn't give her more nightmares. In the end, he seem mostly like a plot device to keep Shin and Maria apart for a little longer, but hopefully good can come from the situation. Maria seems to have had some sort if revelation, but then breaks down when talking to Yusuke. Though I'm glad to see Maria understands how important it is for her friends to know she loves them, I hope she doesn't try to undertake their happiness by herself, and then blame herself if they aren't happy. I love that Yusuke is getting a little more attention, because it's easy to overlook him with how flashy Shintaro is with his affections. It's been Yusuke from the beginning who has been quietly standing by Maria's side and helping her in whatever way he can. Both we as readers and Maria herself should remember that, and what an amazing person he is.
