This book is just a little too... Idealistic.
Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily enjoy a very realistic book, but something about this made me think 'this is just too... Idealistic'. A blue Texas? How easy it seemed for them to get accepted not only by the royal family but the rest of the world (the cheering outside during their meeting with the Queen takes the cake for me).
Overall it had its cute moments and I like most of the characters.. but I can't bring myself to like Alex. I'm sorry, I tried, but his character is purely one sarcastic, self obsessed mess. I liked Henry tho, he feels like he has more dimension as a character. The emails were adorable, but I think I almost reached a point of 'maybe there is such a thing as too much banter'. Their relationship also focused a bit too much on meeting and having sex for me.. I found their love for each other hardly believable for the most part.
Not a big fan of the politics of it all. This book tried to mention too many problems with the world but just for the sake of it, and never really tackled much in the book. It felt like one big propaganda piece posing blue (angels) against red (devils) and everything was far too either good or bad and nothing could be in the middle.
Believe it or not, I thought it was an enjoyable read nonetheless, if taken with a heavy grain of salt.
