I felt a little like this was the adult mystery version of Amelia Bedelia. Mistaking
cocaine
for powdered sugar. I would be interested to read more about this book as a portrayal of ASD. Molly isn't officially diagnosed as being on the spectrum, but I assume that is the implication. I think it is an interesting look at clear communication and valuing the input of how every individual person's brain works. It was also a very fun mystery, and I'm excited to read the next book in this series. I thought the colors-as-names bit was very fun, and I REALLY hope that in future books, Molly can track down
that goddamn ex-boyfriend who stole her money!!!

I loved so many different parts to this. I absolutely recommend this as an audiobook though. I could see reading this being difficult considering Molly’s monologue is very very proper grammar, and it’s somewhat different from what we’re used to seeing in books these days. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I believe Molly is an autistic woman. I don’t think I’ve read many books where we have a character like her. Throughout this book I felt very frustrated with some  characters because of how they acted towards Molly. Personally if I catch on to someone being different, I try to emphasize with them instead of being rude or thinking they’re dumb. So people making fun of her was definitely a turn off, although I think that was entirely the point. Overall I lived that Nita wrote Molly the way she did for especially considering this is a mystery. I absolutely loved the ending. Couldn’t recommend this more.

Molly the Maid is portrayed as autistic without ever being labeled as such. The author did a great job of creating dialogue and internal thought processes which reflect an autistic persons social struggles. The narrator of the audiobook does a fantastic job of giving Molly an “autistic” voice as well. Very well done.

While this book didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat with gripping plot twists, I finished it within a few days and thought that it was a good read. I was able to see most of the plot twists coming up, but it didn’t ruin the book because there were still a few that I didn’t see coming.

I would suspect that the main character has autism. The author does a good job portraying this. I related a lot to the main character and her quirks.

There is a close relationship between the main character and her grandma
and she passes away from cancer
. This may be difficult for readers if they are currently grieving the loss of their own grandma. Personally, I found it both challenging and comforting, as I am grieving losses myself.
