I am even more disappointed by this book than I was with the first one. in my opinion it’s very very similar plot wise to almost ever other basic ya fantasy book like nothing that happens shocked me or seemed original. Because of that it was very hard to get through because it just felt so boring and repetitive. I did like the ending and how that played out. Also my biggest pet peeve with people is when they wallow in self pity I cannot stand characters that sit around and feel sorry for themselves especially when they project it onto others like oh your mom died? wow I feel so sad because I could have done more. Like it’s not about you? Almost every single character in this book had a conversation exactly like that and I couldn’t stand it I literally had to skip through it. Overall this book was mediocre and not really worth the time.

A really fun, action-packed sequel. Would have liked more character development, but overall, very entertaining.

language/smut: very clean
violence: not graphic

« Failure doesn’t define you. It’s what you do after you fail that determines whether you are a leader or a waste of perfectly good air ». Sabaa Tahir, A Torch Against the Night

I think Sabaa just broke me ! I need a breather from this book.

I just finished A Torch Against The Night and Wow. At first I was a bit worried from all the hyped this book brought. I started really getting into the book around the middle ! and this end !!! Packed with action and plot twist and mystery and love and death and EVERY freaking THING !!!

I can’t wait for next one to be out !!!

This book is just as wonderful as the first in the series. Tahir manages to make you hate then care about a character over time as you watch them develop. I’m so invested in Elias and Laia I might be crushed if everything doesn’t work out for them.
