The characters feel two dimensional and uninteresting. The world building beyond Conclave is non existent. The plot is barebones and longs for compelling characters to drive it forward, but they just aren’t. The prose is fine but could do with more description of environments and character appearance which might give a sense of personality.

Weirdly, I feel like it isn’t that interested in time travel beyond the psychological impacts. There’s a lot that could be done that just isn’t. Also, following three linear stories of non-time travellers is possibly the least interesting perspective to follow in this world. This book is begging for the POV of a jaded, experienced time traveller who out of desperation goes to see one of the other POVs for therapy (or dating) and a deep intricate character study. The murder plot line could probably stay tbh.

This was a ramble but this book needs compelling characters and an actual focus on time travel. Everything else feels like a waste of potential.
I might go write that alternative version of this actually

An incredible read. The most thoughtfully crafted exploration of time travel I've seen in any piece of media.

This was a great little adventure, with plenty of strings in different timeliness finally coming together in a single flawless knot. Super fun, and the narration on the audiobook was gorgeous.

I loved elements of this book, and I found it hard to put down. However, I don’t feel like I know any of the women, they were all so similar, it was hard to remember whose chapter I was reading. It felt as though there were too many ideas, some romance, some time travel, some mystery, but none of them were developed enough for me to fully get on board. An enjoyable read though, i just wanted more.

From the moment I first saw the cover of The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenas I just knew I was going to love it - it's embroidery!

The book is set in 1967, 2017 and 2018 and it follows the lives of the four women who invented time travel and (tiny spoiler) their pet rabbit, Patrick Troughton a.k.a. the second Doctor Who!

I love how the author came up with her own Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey rules for time travel. She didn't stick to the pre-set rules of every major sci-fi already out there and it was great.

As the story bounces from year to year we are also introduced to the granddaughter of one of the Pioneers in 2017, as well as another character who is trying to solve the murder of a mystery woman in 2018.

It may sound confusing but when reading it, each chapter, and time jump, flows to the next quite seamlessly making this quite a compelling read. In fact, I finished this in one sitting today as I just didn't want to put it down!

Story aside, one of my favourite things about this book is that it's written by a woman and features only women as main characters! Even in 2018, this is refreshing.

Thank you so much to Head of Zeus for sending me a free copy of The Psychology of Time Travel - I cannot recommend it enough

meh?

pretty neat world-building and a central lesbian relationship, but the prose was very dull and i didn't really give a shit about any of the characters. at least there was timey-wimey fun.
