The Dark Tide (Adrien English Mystery, #5) This is the last book in the Adrien (with an 'E') English series and I am so bummed that this is the end! *sniffle* Loved each book in the set as we went through several murder investigations, serious mysteries that had me trying to puzzle out the culprit (every time!), amusing family dynamics and a fantastic romance woven through it all.

I will miss Adrien and Jake quite a bit. Adrien's voice was very unique and very easy to get immersed in. He comes across as an all around cool guy, someone you'd want to be friends with; he is smart with just the right amount of wit and extremely self possessed. He and Jake have a epic romance but not of your typical variety. It's not exactly angsty but there are some seemingly insurmountable barriers that their relationship has to overcome so the conclusion is pretty satisfying (I am a big fan of Jake but I know some found him very difficult to like!).

I already have a couple of Josh Lanyon's back catalog on my kindle. Even though it won't be Adrien's voice I hope I'll find some new favorite characters to love.

Adrien is recovering from heart surgery and is home for the first time when there is break in at his book shop. The following day skeletal remains are found by construction works renovating the other half of the building that Adrien has bought. This is the start of another murder mystery that Adrien finds himself in the middle of. It's a nice set up but than Adrien's on again, off again, relationship with Jake comes into play and the story becomes full of angst. Old boyfriends appear adding to the mix.

Sometimes, crime and romance don't mix very well and the balance in this novel is a bit of a let down for me.

4.5 stars or maybe 5... I don't know right now, but this was good. Loved the slow development in the relationship. And I kind of adore Jake now. It is kind of brilliant to have a character develop so much... Or more rightly said... Have MY feelings and opinions about a character develop so much.

Oh Dawn I didn't realize this was the last book of the series! That's just frecked up!

No!! i'm actually disappointed... I got everything I wanted in the end but I didn't particularly liked the journey to get there. The whole thing with the exes (Mel and ugh Guy) felt unnecessary to me, it was just bizarre. I wanted more moments between Adrien and Jake, more real talks about their past, just more...
The murder mystery was a let down as well. Didn't really care for the comparison between the old cop and Jake. Not many twists and turns. It went too fast/was too short.
Also why does every book in this series end like that? So suddenly?
Obviously, I still enjoyed it. I've grown attached to the characters and all I wanted was for them to be happy and they are. I just saw it playing out differently in my mind.

“How had I forgotten this? How had I been satisfied with anything else? Guy…Mel…it was like choosing celluloid kisses over the real thing. The real thing was raw and powerful and dangerous…but it was the real thing. Had I really believed I could make do with safe substitutes?”

Gah! This book was exactly the payoff I was hoping for. Each book in this series is better than the last. I think the limited time spent on the interaction between Adrien and Jake in previous books makes the romance in this book so much sweeter. It's stupid how swoony I was over a character I thought was an absolute bastard in the first 3 books. This will be a series I reread for sure.

I had this book sitting for a long time on my TBR without actually picking it up. A shame, because this is the conclusion to Adrien's and Jake's story, with another dead body in the mix.
To be honest: Jake had a lot to make up for since the previous book; luckily for him, he did show (finally) how much Adrien means to him. To conclusion was even a little bitter-sweet, and I now look back quite fondly on this series. I'm glad both men finally found their peace, and each other.

 How surprising...

I did enjoy this book a lot more than the others, simply because they were honest with each other. And wow Jake being honest with himself, makes him 10000 times more attractive.

It was a good read, kinda an interesting plot. I'm just happy that they are happy.
