My first book of 2022 and unfortunately this is a DNF. I searched for this book and it was stuck in my mind since elementary school. I liked this book as a 5th grader that liked all things gross. I can’t say I feel the same now. Rather boring but it’s a 1/5.

I was sceptical at the beginning, because I’m not the target audience anymore but my friend loves this series (he’s been trying to get me to read it for years) and he gifted me his whole collection and I promised him I’d give it a try.

And I enjoyed it! It was a bit darker than I thought, but I loved that. I’m mad that it took me so long to listen to my friend and read it because younger me would absolutely love this!

There was one thing that was very confusing and that I didn’t like that much and it was the format (NOTE: I read the Czech translation and have no idea if this is in other languages too). It was kinda weird that the paragraphs weren’t visibly separated. I’m used to stopping in the middle of chapters so sometimes I had no idea where I stopped reading and it’s also “aesthetically” not that pleasing.

Lord Loss surprised me. It is my first book club book and I didn't expect too much from it. I like Darren Shan but the blurb didn't excite me.
Well, I was wrong. I absolutely loved this book! While I really wish the MC wasn't named Grubbs (tbh all of the names bar Dervish and Meera are kinda terrible).
The deaths and demons are much more graphic than I thought. In fact, I got this book in the children's section of my local library, bottom self even... So I might mention it to the librarians, this is a young adult book. It deals with family death, infidelity, metal health, mental health institutions and pretty graphic violence.

The story is somewhat meandering, which works for this particular book as so much of it is the set up for this world. It's a great first entry.
