This book read surprisingly fast considering that the overall plot felt rather dull. The characters never felt fleshed out, the world building was lacking, and the dialogue was cheesy more often than not. Suffice it to say that this book didn't do it for me and I'm not inclined to read any further into the series.

Cicely has been on the run with her mother for years. Only visiting home once a year but now that her mother has died, Now that the local leader of the witches has been murdered and her family is in danger Cicely heads for the only home she’s known. People are disappearing, bodies turning up and it’s not the vampires this time around. Within Cicely’s arrival her aunt and friend are added to the ones who have disappeared. Cicely also encounters her old love Greive who has been enslaved into the Indigo court.
With the help of the books left to Cicely from the prior leader she learns that the Indigo court are Fae who had been bitten by vampires and turned into living dead. The keep their fae powers as well as gain strength but unlike humans or other magic beings they aren't bound to the vampire. Now that the indigo court has decided to makes itself known it’s more deadly than the local vampires. Cicely learns will have to make deals with the vampires, risk everything to save her family and her beloved fae prince from the clutches of the queen.
Cicely is a witch but compared to other witches her skills are behind because of the entire time spent running. Thankfully she’s not alone she has the constant company of Ulean a wind elemental who helps keep an eye over her. The characters though vast are all unique in their own right and I can see many possibilities in the future. My favorite was Peyton the half shapeshifter who wants to open her own investigation business. I hope to see her in the next book. I also as much as I don’t want to love Greive he’s connected to Cicely by a bond which makes the chemistry between them hot. Plus he’s a vampiric fae prince what’s not to love.
I wasn't sure about this one it’s been on my shelf forever but the synopsis screams read me. I’m not sure why it took so long to give it a start. The book does start off a little slow I’ll admit but it’s mostly because we have a lot of world building to do which I think enhances the story. I love the unique concept for the indigo court vampiric fae you can’t help love them. I enjoyed the fact that Cicely lives in a world where the supers are just normal parts of everyday life, it’s my ideal world. Cicely is great she’s not perfect, she still has a lot to learn about herself and who she is but it doesn't limit her. She’s kick ass when need be and willing to spill a little blood to save her family. Night Myst is full of action, hot guys, blood, fighting, and supernatural beings around every corner. My only grip is I didn't like Cicely’s experiences with Lannon I hope to see his death in the next book. For me I was captivated by Cicely right from the start it was hard to put down, I even purchased the next one looking forward to start it. Warning this book does get a little steamy so mature audience suggested.

The big draw for me was the idea of vampiric fae. I've never read that twist on the mythology before. The proverbial BA tough chick protagonist was somewhat juvenile and a bit annoying, but I thought the story had a lot of potential.
It started out strong, then slowly weakened from the middle until the end. Small inconsistencies bothered me, for example one case where the author described a character as dressing in black jeans and a black turtleneck, then shortly after described a drop of blood running down her neck onto the fabric of her t-shirt. It totally takes me out of the moment when I've pictured something the way it is described, then it suddenly changes without reason. The editors should have caught that.
The woman narrating the audiobook had a pleasant voice, but would put strange emphasis in certain places, making a character who should sound frightened or determined sound flat, valley-girlish, or annoyed.
The romance wasn't believable, I didn't care for the characters' names (Grieve, Cherish, Rhia, etc), but overall, I was entertained. Not high-fantasy by a long shot, but what I've come to expect from urban fantasy/paranormal romance. Warning: very sexually explicit, in a gratuitous, not-necessary way (forceful, Dom)

Wavering between a 3 and a 4... I give the 4 simply because Cicely is a good, non-badassitude main character. A 3 simply because I HATE the oh this goth-guy and that goth-guy! Enough! As a former Goth, I am telling you, the trend (aka the look) died in 1995...

RE-READ
More like 3,5 stars now. Re-reading this to continue to read the next book because back then at 2013 (okay, time sure do flies fast) I just read book #1 and didn't continue the rest. Also, I just realize the perversion of the vampire portrayed here really make it icky, and the first PoV didn't help to lessen it.
OLD review below, kind of spoilerish, so read at your own risk :P XD
Night Myst is the first book of Indigo Court series, and also the first time I try to read Yasmine Galenorn's books. I have her Otherworld series which in my opinion is pretty cool since she write it from 3 sister POV and each book, the POV always change. Also it have pretty covers too. Night Myst also has pretty cover, you know with "I'm sexy and I know it" pose, which I believe I will have difficulty to mimic it :)).
I like this book, like the Fae myth behind it. Yasmine Galenorn herself is shamanic witch and the Fae God and Goddess is her patron, so she definitely know what she write. Not just like another writer who doing research. Not that I think another writer is bad, but the myth of this book feel natural and captivating for me. The way Ms Galenorn write about vampire, fae, shapeshifter, even those creatures are not new to me, still provide a new info about their kind. Ms Galenorn make a new creature, unite Fae and vampire, called Vampiric Fae with their court, Indigo Court, and they're so cruel, also fierce. The vampire themselves, beside sensual creatures, they're also people who you want to messed with. Not that kind you want to cuddle too! (oh yea, thank to the O Sparkly One, who apparently is a joke to vampire world :)) )
The story is full action packed, and full of magic term. Cicely, the heroine can control wind and one of Uwilahsidhe, a Cambyra Fae, Fae who can shapeshift into animal. And Cicely can shift into owl. Now, that's what make Night Myst more unique. An owl shape shifter. Her lover, Grieve is a Summer Court Prince that can turn into wolf but sadly now he is part of Indigo Court and Cicely will do anything to save him. Add with Cicely's uneasy alliance with Lannan Altos from Veil Court (the vampire). Even no love triangle, because Lannan make Cicely (and me) sick with his cruel and chauvinistic behavior. Another character also make this story rich, like Cicely's cousin Rhiannon, her fiance Leo and Kaylin Chen, the dream walker. Also, not forget about Cicely's enemy, Myst the Queen of Indigo Court who somewhat have relationship with Cicely in the past.
Galenorn's writing is kinda ordinary for me, and maybe it just me, but some part feel flat. Though, I still want to read the next, because I love the world building and want to know how Cicely will beat Myst, save Grieve and if she can free herself from Lannan Altos

I liked this book, one thing I love in a book is good characters, and I really liked the characters in this book, and loved the main one!!! Her name is Cicely Waters, she is a magic born (aka a witch) Cicely is a strong women character and has a great personality that I think makes the book. I thought this book was very funny and entertaining through & through. This was the first book by this author that I read and I enjoyed it, and can't wait to read more from her. It’s a fast past read
