Darkplace is my favourite TV show ever made so I had to get this, in audiobook, narrated by the man himself. I feel that really enhanced the experience - Holness is unironically a good narrator, even when doing The Voice, and he has great comedic delivery. And it definitely helped that he's capable of writing incredibly good horror when he isn't trying to be bad (Possum).
The first story in particular made me laugh a lot, and he did a good job of capturing a lot of what made the show so good. This kind of ridiculous, intentionally bad writing is best consumed in doses rather than binged though, which I'll take in mind when I listen to the sequel because after I while I started to feel like I was going insane.
Good stuff. Love this guy.

God bless Garth Marenghi and his misogynist horror bullshit. 4 stars partly because of some personal taste stuff (body horror is rough for me) and partly because there were sections that dragged, even if the dragging was often intentional. But by God, where else can you find Marty Stu’s engaging in BDSM with a cursed typewriter? Listen to the audiobook if you can, it definitely adds to the experience.
Graphic: Body horror
Moderate: Misogyny
All misogyny in this book is 1000% intentional and meant to make the Garth Marenghi persona look like an ass, which it does wonderfully.
