3.5 stars, rounded up.

An interesting look at the cutthroat and competitive world of ballet. So much lying, backstabbing and catty girls - normally things that I’m not really into - but it worked here and made the story readable. There’s a lot of harassment and abuse, especially toward Gigi (poor Gigi!) and a slight mystery aspect of who is perpetrating these things. It ended on an interesting cliffhanger, and I will be picking up book 2 to see what these girls are in for next!

Only real complaint is the ending, it sucked.

I was actually going to donate this book a while ago because I watched the show and was afraid it was going to be too similar…I couldn’t have been more wrong!

First I’d just like to address the age I’d recommend for this book. I usually don’t do this but the concept of this book could be seen as a book for young readers so I just want to give a warning. If you watched the show, you know that there is quite a bit of unnecessary ✨spice✨ and the book has it too, but it’s not as in your face or as much. I definitely would say this book is for 15+ for that reason. Also please check trigger warnings before reading.

The only thing I can say that was the same was the characters…and by characters I mean Bette. The story lines of the other characters were so different…even Giselle was named something different in the show. The plots were very different and I think they might have been set in different cities as well. I view these two works as very different but both equally as amazing and I recommend both the book and the show.

But enough about the show. This book was absolutely AMAZING!! I honestly wish I would’ve bought the sequel at the same time because I need to know what happens!

Anyway I loved this book and highly recommend!

This book is filled with drama and it was entertaining.  It was also dark and gritty, and I really enjoyed that aspect.  I loved how diverse the cast of characters are in this book.  This book was so different than anything that I have ever read and I enjoyed it.
