Such a cute, and educational, story explaining the origins of Groundhog Day!

This is the story of a young groundhog named Gulliver who wakes up with his Grandfather from their hibernation. Gulliver realizes something is chasing him and has to learn what a shadow is. He also learns about Groundhog Day. He doesn't understand why a little groundhog seeing his shadow can mean so much.

I really wish this had been around when my children were younger. I think this would be a great book in any teacher's library or a child's home library. It is great to use when a child is learning about folklore, shadows, Groundhog Day, or groundhogs. Gulliver learns what a shadow is and why it moves when he does and how it gets bigger and smaller. He also learns about the history of groundhog day. In the back of the book is a little informative section about Groundhogs and the history of Groundhog Day and Candlemas Day. It's really very interesting. I had no idea that Groundhog Day evolved from Candlemas Day.

The illustrations in this book are so adorable! Gulliver has very animated facial features that are obvious throughout. I love great illustrations. My 9 year old even said they were great and made her want to read the book. She then stole the book and read it on her own. ;)
