Read an ARC of this book. I liked the characters, but this book needs some heavy editing. Periods missing, confusing changes between tenses, and ‘Alex’ at one time was spelled ‘Alexis.’ Characters who you didn’t even realize were there will pop up and say something.

I won a digital copy of this book from a StoryGraph giveaway. At first I was enjoying the instalove story, with a little past trauma of a shive relationship and alcohol abuse thrown in to give the characters some back story and depth. Then toward the end it got really dark really fast and the ending/resolution felt rushed.

It’s not a closed door romance but it’s not super explicit or spicy (in fact it might have been improved by being more spicy but that might have thrown off the pacing even more if extra time was spent on descriptions….

Also this book needs a REALLY good edit. It’s half in present tense and half in past tense, sometimes within the same sentence. It really pulled me out of the story every time it changed. I kinda want to print it off and have at it with a red pen because I think there’s a decent story under there!

This book deserves a solid 5-star rating! It turned out to be quite different from what I expected, but in the best way. The romance between Xavier and Ever, with its instant connection, was beautifully depicted and incredibly engaging.

SpoilerAlex, the bully in the story, was a character I truly wanted to see face consequences for his actions. The fact that a restraining order was issued against him from the beginning, even before his attempt to harm Ever, highlighted the seriousness of his actions. I wished Ever had taken even more decisive steps against him.

Winning this book in a giveaway was a fantastic surprise, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to read and provide my honest review. I can't wait to explore more from this author! 📚🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Narrative mistakes.  "I looked at Ever, her eyes glittering in the streetlight. “Let me drive,” he offered." Where "I" and "he" refer to the same narrator.  It kept pulling me out of the story.
