I found the writing style of all three books within Volume 1 to be quite well written. The story sucks the reader in, and defin tely held my attention throughout reading. I will say that, while this is a period romance that was written some time ago, the couples all seem to be verying degrees from a little to very toxic.

I love the way the author shifts slightly the way characters speak, and their mannerisms. It helps clearly define each character as an individual, even while within the series.

Absolutely LOVE how kind, and loving the Bridgerton family is with one another! It's refreshing and warm and generally lovely to read of a large family that truly cares for one another.

I would recommend not reading the second epilogues until you've read the full series, if you don't want any spoilers.

My detractors:
Daphne
forcing Simon to ejaculate inside her, knowing he didn't want a kid, is rape. Full stop. She didn't have consent. Whatever he lied about or omitted didn't make that okay.

Antony
forcing a kiss on Kate?
hard pass. And also when he
stands on her hand & kicks her in the stomach?
Absolutely not. Then the final straw for him is when Kate
asked for some reprieve before they had sex for the first time and he said no.
.

Benedict & Sophie seemed to be an oddly violent couple. Also, it made my skin crawl when he
straight up blackmailed and kidnapped her after asking her to be his mistress
While I understand that for the period it was written, it would have
potentially been extremely dangerous for her to just be a single woman alone, honestly, that doesn't excuse it.

Anyone who uses the word scintillating more than once in their writing has very obviously spent too much time on archive of our own. It’s basically a fanfiction of some sort, very heavy male gaze vibes, each chapter seems put together as itself, rather than part of a whole. The usage of period dialogue versus modern vernacular is inconsistent and distracting. The only good thing that I can say about it is that it may provide a droll mental break or a source of ridicule.  Sensitive content next.
Daphne sexually assaults Simon while he is under the influence and has made clear he doesn’t want kids which is then played off as Simons fault… horrible.
