I was pleasantly surprised by how clearly both sexism and feminism are portrayed in an eighteen-hundreds climate. This play feels refreshing considering the time period during which it was written.

Read this today for the Drama section of my Literary Criticism class. I have to admit I grew to love Nora, and the ending of the novel really spoke to me. I'm sure plenty of people malign Nora, but I think she really came into her own, and I enjoyed her moment of self-actualization. (And anyone shaming her or her friend for "marrying into money" and "abandoning her marriage and kids", etc etc, clearly has no understanding of what life was like for women at the time, and how little choice they truly had.)

So many turns as the main character Nora goes through a secret that could ruin her life. She talks of the emotions she goes through and then it ends at a compelling reality.

Overall a good read. Short read. Basic characters. Good plot.

Het is een nog steeds goed leesbaar verhaal. Het verhaal is goed te volgen en er zitten gelukkig geen lange monologen in. Het verhaal heeft een sterk en interessant einde zeker in verband met de tijd waarin het geschreven is.

Truly an incredible play for its time and for now. As an actress I desperately crave to play a character like Nora thanks to Ibsen's genius playwriting. Both a resonant and feminist classic and a witty and satirical commentary A Dolls House is well worth reading. Similar to Oscar Wilde in it's tone the play manages to include humor amongst harsh realities of society.
