Thoughts:
The more I thought about the story as a whole, the more my rating dropped lol but If you would’ve asked me while I was reading the story, I would’ve given it a 5*. I feel like the ending was somehow… lackluster. I don’t know why to be honest, probably because I was just not ever invested in Monique as a character. Or maybe I just expected so much.
Connor’s name just reminds me of Connor Murphy but I love the way motherhood was portrayed.
Evelyn was such an interesting character to read. I devoured this book because of her.
I don’t like Celia that much but the nice parts of their relationship was pretty cute.

This historical romance novel is not the most exciting read I ever had. As it portray objectifying women as a societal norm. It is though voluptuous and sensual but the way it morally demeans women and their very being just doesn’t not it for me.
“You do not know how fast you’ve been running, how hard you’ve been working, how truly exhausted you are until some stands behind you and says “It’s OK, you can fall down now. I’ll catch you.”
An underage Cuban teenager finding her way to fame and luxurious life using her body is not exemplary. Showing that “back in the day” that’s all women had, was to use what they had to get their way in a male dominant world.
“People think that intimacy is sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and there response is you’re safe with me-That’s intimacy .”
Legendary fictional actress Evelyn Hugo, whose character is based on Elizabeth Taylor in real life and Ava gardener, gives you true insight into show biz and how things work in Hollywood which are true to this day. How your heritage, culture, race, language & sexual orientation play an important role in your life. And how something so little can ruin it all for you.
“I spent half my time loving her & the other half hiding how much I loved her.”
It sure is a memorable read for me as there are hidden messages and life lessons in this book through & through. True meaning of love and the extent one goes for the sale of love.
“And it will be the tragedy of my life that I cannot love you enough to make you mine. That you cannot be loved enough to be anyone’s.”
Love. Hate. Tragedy. Deceit. Heartbreak. It’s an intoxicating read which promotes suicide as well which I oppose too. But also tells the meaning of life. It’s too short to hold back. You never know what’s out their waiting for you. You should be the one always ready to get what you want the way you want. Know your worth and never expect less. Know that no one is worthy of you unless you make them. And be confident and proud of yourself and who you truly are.
