a pageturner. the seven husbands of evelyn hugo wasn't a perfect book, there was a lot to hate but there was also a lot to love. i couldn't put it down.

evelyn is an excellent character study. she's selfish, conniving, ruthless, ambitious, larger-than-life itself and so much more. as a supporter of women's rights and women's wrongs i had no choice but to stan. the evelyn chapters were the strongest aspect of this book, i felt like i was reading about the history of real people and i didn't want to journey to end. so i'll definitely check out the other works in the tjr universe. tjr provides an excellent view into the dark side of celebrity and entertainment culture.

whilst i think its nice that tjr attempted to depict the identity struggles of a biracial women with monique grant's character...i'm not sure if she had the range. monique was a mediocre journalist at best and anti-black at worst. the plot twist near the end felt under-baked and predictable. it didn't add much tbh.

I love strong character like Hugo. The story was amazing, its a lot of things that we can agree with Hugo, and many that we will not. But I enjoy this book. Love seeing stories where characters are not black or white, but more complex and in the gray zone. It was nice to see the old Hollywood that was big and crazy back in the day. And also I love showing that being a girl is hard and will always be the battel with the system.

I loved this book so much that I'm not sure what to say.
What I do know is that I need to say it felt like a real biography. The story is so human and realistic and I'm just in awe. It is so well-written and the story is perfectly executed. Taylor certainly knows how to keep the reader wanting for more, and she also creates loveable characters despite their numerous flaws, because, after all, no one is perfect.
Evelyn was marvellous, and I loved the reason behind every one of her marriages. Some relationships were better than others, and there's a husband that has my heart (I'm sure those who've read the book know who I'm talking about), but each of them has its shades of grey. Despite that, the one true love story made me ache and smile and laugh and cry. Wonderful.
This novel is about love, and not only the romantic one, but almost every kind: familial, platonic, romantic, self-love... Fantastic.

WHAT A WAY TO ROUND OF MY BOOK GOAL FOR THE YEAR. 52/52

And what a shock it’s left me with.  Reading the last few chapters of this I felt chocked.  Physically I couldn’t breathe and the shock this left me with oh my god.   It was gay in more ways than one, out the closet in the closet, found family, queer devastation and heart break.

Decades of lies broken by truths.  My heart broken by all of that.  Evelyn never really got her happily ever after and my heart yearns for her but her story is truly more beautiful, devastating and dramatic than any of the movies she filmed within.

Wow.
Wow.
This book is insane. The moment I took it, I couldn't stop. It was just too good. I love how Evelyn is not perfect. She seemed so real. At some point, Evelyn behaviors got on my nerve but that was just the point. Evelyn is not perfect, she is human with default, ambition, etc. I love her relationship (when they were older because, before that, it was kinda toxic). I love how this book can talk about every type of love.

Evelyn Hugo is a latina in 1950s Hollywood, and this book shows how she reached for her dream and the consequences that come with being famous.
i wasn’t expecting this to be a gay book, to be honest i was just here for the hollywood 50s Marilyn Monroe/Elizabeth Taylor vibes, but i love that it is sapphics.</spoilers>
This is a very emotional shock book but it’s so pretty and vibey!
