Wow. Evelyn Hugo feels to me like a real icon. When reading It felt so real, I thought she was a real person in my head. This story crosses the line between fiction and real life. The love story between two queer people in the early 50’s to the 90’s was so beautiful written. I understand the hype around this book. This was a roller coster of emotions, that I feel everybody needs to read at least once. The racial discrimination in this book, forcing people of color to hide there true self. Reallly represents what hollywood standed for back then. The topics of AIDS and how queer people could be punished back then was also well written. This book is for people to feel SEEN and to be their true authentic self. Don’t coware away from who you truely are, don’t like you life in regret. Evelyn Hugo was a raw and sometimes bad person, as well as an icon, but most of all she was human. That is what drove this story, she felt so human to be I couldn’t help but sympathize  with her. AND THE ENDING HELLO ? Wow. I want this to be a movie or tv show ASAP.

I wanted to love this book because as a biracial person I don't think I've ever read a book with a biracial protagonist, but it just kinda fell flat for me. I predicted the plot twist at the end almost immediately, and I didn't feel all that compelled by the main love story between E and C. They seemed, frankly, bad for each other lol I didn't understand how they fell madly in love besides just being queer, closeted, and in close proximity (which I guess is relatable but not really what I wanted from the book). Monique was kinda forgettable, her mom had more personality in like 3 lines of dialogue than Monique did in the whole book. It also didn't feel authentic to the time period. I always felt like I was getting whiplash when they said the date or Evelyn's age, because she talked the same way at 16 as she did at 79. I didn't get the old Hollywood vibe at all. Everytime a phone rang I thought it was a cellphone. Also, man there was so much unnecessary sex in this book. It felt like every other intimiate emotional moment was followed up with someone touching Evelyn's breasts. I don't care that it was supposed to be
building up to her getting breast cancer at the end of the book.
It felt male gazey and reductive.

Loved this book, couldn't put it down. Want to reread it again after the reveal at the end.

Outstanding. Best book I've read in my entire life. From beginning to end, I was captivated. My god, this was just incredible.

I fear my brain, and its biases, was somewhat deceived by the cover and title of this book. My mind immediately categorized it as what the Norwegians jokingly, but commonly, refer to as “husmorsporno»(*) literally translating to “housewife’s porn(see below) This beautiful story, certainly wasn’t that.

I found "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” to be really very engaging - and that without needing to rely on either shock value, heavy spice or any other stereotypical romantic trope. I found myself wildly curious, fully immersed, and unable to stop reading - and yet I wasn’t at the edge of my seat(without that being a bad thing!) My feelings while reading where: interested while still being relaxed and truly content with the pace of the story unfolding.
Simply put: I did not want the book to end - yet I had to know what came next.

(*)”Husmorsporno»: romantic/semi-spicy books by mostly non-famous authors targeting the wet dreams and hidden fantasies of somewhat bored, sometimes slightly lonely, and oftentimes mature women. Example: “Fifty Shades of Grey” had it not made it to the masses.
The books are almost always (only) sold in supermarkets near the checkout counter and features covers with shirtless men and swooning ladies(oftentimes in gardens in front of mansions) on the cover. Typical cover art:
