The pace of the plot definitely picked up a lot in this volume, and I was literally on the edge of my seat reading it through. It seems that whatever is trapping the students in the school is using their darkest fear, guilt and trauma to instill fear in them, before making them disappear.
Some spoilers, but the scene where one of the characters' wrists started to bleed profusely out of nowhere, as if it was sliced, was utterly horrifying. It still makes me shudder remembering it.

Much darker than the other volumes, it also dips into more students lives, and their fates. One is implied to be a teen prostitute, caring for her younger sister. Another harbours feelings of guilt for abandoning a friend who was being bullied, and killed themselves because of it. We still don't know who is keeping them trapped, or what the final outcome will be. Its dark, teen horror, with multiple mentions of suicide and bullying. Underlying all of that is an intriguing mystery. Volume 4 is the final one and I can't wait to see how it all comes together for the big reveal. I have my suspicions, but I'm keeping them to myself for now. This is one twisty series and you never know what might happen next.

Akihito relives the day of the festival when their classmate commits suicide, and particular focus is on one student who Akihito could have done more for. Akihito witnesses him constantly being bullied, and often stands up for him, but lets a couple of encounters slide without helping. Akihito wonders if this is the person who committed suicide and trapped them here, and whether it was entirely his fault. After this, Akihito disappears and doesn't get a chance to discuss with the others what he has discovered. Rika also gets separated from the group and has a flashback of her own and also disappears.
