I received this as a Goodreads Giveaway. The premise of this book was fascinating and kept me reading, but the character development was shallow. We never learn much of anything about Orville's background before he went to dig, his prior relationship with his brother, nothing about their parents, etc. and it made it difficult to figure out his true motivation or how he actually felt about anything. The other characters were even more superficial. I finished it because it was such an unusual story, ultimately, it had a ton of potential with most of it unrealized.

A quick, fun, but largely forgettable story about forming community and identity in "late-stage capitalism." While the book had a bunch of entertaining twists and turns, I felt like whatever its broader message was fell kind of flat. Might make an interesting movie one day.

There is extremely interesting sociology being explored by this book, but it feels underdeveloped and told by over-performed characters. Had to force myself to get through the first 3/4 as much as i wanted to like it.

Just not interested in picking it back up. I don't think dystopia is for me any more

This was either satire/existential commentary that didn’t go deep enough, or sci-fi with no world building. Ok concept but just didn’t know what it wanted to do with itself.
