◽️B O O K R E V I E W: A Million Junes by Emily Henry

“Grief is an unfillable hole in your body. It should be weightless, but it's heavy. Should be cold, but it burns. Should, over time, close up, but instead it deepens.”

Emily Henry does… paranormal YA? Like a lot of bookstagram I devoured and LOVED People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers and Beach Read and I was ready for more. I found out she had some older books published that I didn’t see getting the same attention but I was very curious.

I was really nervous to start this one, but overall I enjoyed it. In true Emily Henry fashion, the prose was beautiful and I really cared about the characters. However, the story left something to be desired for me.

I didn’t quite follow all of the magical realism. I’m not sure if there were plot holes in the origin story or if I just missed something but I was a little confused by the end.

This is definitely it if you are looking for a YA read with heart. It’s Romeo and Juliet meets… alternate timelines. Overall, I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My heart… wow. I did not go into this story with any sort of expectation or preparation. But, whoa. This novel deeply, beautifully explores the many facets of grief, and what it looks like to choose to either hold on, or let go. There was something so powerful about the generational aspect of this novel; Genetic memory, breaking cycles, and choosing love.

“I was just a moment, and you gave me a million Junes. I was just a moment, and you made me forever.“

I really couldn’t recommend this enough. Truly.

All the best elements of a dumb romance YA novel taken to the next level with beautiful writing and magical realism. A truly lovely, enjoyable read.

4.5 stars. Every time I think, I can’t possibly love Emily Henry any more than I do now, I read another book of hers and I’m proven wrong. I honestly don’t know how she does it. Her creativity. Her characters. Her storytelling. How does she do it? Mind you, this is just a YA book. But I want this Emily to make a comeback. I love her contemporary fiction books. What I would love to see is a mix of both. Contemporary romance/science fiction or fantasy. I’d love to see this kind of world or the world in The Love That Split the World in a book made for adults. Please Emily!
