It was a nice story but I feel like I have read a lot of stories like this before.

This multi-perspective novel is charming and interesting albeit incredibly rushed. The story moves through the world of Opaline, Martha and Henry and their journeys in love, life, and bookselling with some magic realism sprinkled in there. I’m not a fan of magic realism so felt a lot of the novel lacked proper explanation. The story moved incredibly quickly and overall, felt far too rushed. Woods covers a LOT of ground and the tone switches between children’s fairy tale and depressing thriller which at times, was too much tonal whiplash. Opaline’s sections were by far the best bit and overall the story was a fun concept.

Probably wouldve enjoyed it more if i was into classics. Enjoyed the minor historical aspects & character. Didnt like one of the main characters & didn't understand one of the romance plotlines. But overall cozy, comfy, magical read.

P.S. its giving seething feminine rage & im all for it 😘
