This was such an interesting and gripping book! At times, it was confusing to go between time periods and characters but that became easier as time went on.

The story is so emotional and touches on heavy themes in an authentic manner — including the heartbreaking experiences of some women.

This was different to my usual read but so glad I read it!

The ending was fantastic. The build up left me with intrigue and I couldn’t stop reading.

Fascinating story idea - past & present timelines overlapping in mysterious ways, with elements of fantasy + magical realism, mixing in some literary history - but there are too many backstories and starkly traumatic side plots + disconnected characters that unfortunately muddle the focus. Multiple narrators are useful but their voices are almost interchangeable with simplistic voices and observations, so their personalities feel wooden & bland. Some of the timelines and perspective jumps are confusing and fall flat with the lack of accuracy and/or explanation.
Overall the concept is promising but the execution felt pedestrian & disappointing.

Considering what a dud my last read was, this one could only be given a full five stars. I normally dislike parallel timelines telling two stories back and forth. This time, it felt less linear and more circular. I was yelling angered, saddened, shocked, elated, hopeful, satisfied, curious, cheerful, and so many other feelings all throughout the book. There are so open questions, but the book felt so good to finish that none of those questions actually need answers for me.

I enjoyed this book. The only complaint is that it ended too abruptly. I really enjoyed the women’s stories and felt that (despite the obvious fantasy parts) that they were quite truthful to real life stories.
