My biggest issue with this book is that the single POV made it difficult to understand Callum's (MMC) motivations. I generally don't like single POV for this reason, but there are authors who have done it well (Kresely Cole). In Hold Your Breath the lack of insight into Callum's character just made him feel fairly flat. In general I don't look to suspense novels for deep character development, but given that it is cross listed as romance I expected more. As a newbie romance reader, but a lifelong suspense reader, there wasn't enough romance for Romance, nor was the suspense Suspenseful enough.
If anyone is reading this looking for a JD Robb style self contained mystery/suspense, beware, there are two main "mystery" plots. Onethe source of the threats to Lou is fully resolved, but the other headless dead guy ends up spanning the four books of the series. The self contained mystery was fairly predictable.
And can I just sayI really effing hate any contemporary story line where a father treats his daughter as a commodity to be traded. Honestly, does that really happen?! And yes... I get it that romance is a fantasy. Le sigh.
This book gets three stars for me because Lou made me laugh out loud more than once.

I list misogyny primarily for the fact that
