I didn’t think I would like this book as much as I did whaha
The story wasn’t that predictable as I thought it would be and the characters were way better written than I expected.
There was a lot of sarcasm and humor and the writing styles was very pleasant to read.
There are 2 more books in this storyline, but I personally see the story as finished, so I’m not planning on reading those right away.
Overall a surprisingly good book, so 4/5 stars:)

This book was a little but above okay. I enjoyed the story and the characters, I just felt the story lost its luster towards the end of the book. It seemed rushed and it kind of felt like the writing changed from elaborate story telling to short and choppy sentences that didn't feel like they belonged. The main action was rushed and done in a weird way. I did enjoy the twist at the end. The monster was upplayed throughout the whole story and at the end, he wasn't what I was expecting.

The story was fun, but I wouldn't say I'm very invested, especially from the last quarter of the book to the end. It fell off for me, but it was still an enjoyable book.

The whole plot was honestly really unique. I haven't read a retelling of Beauty and the beast where there are two separate worlds and the girl gets taken to the other. (that I can think of..?)
First of all the protagonist was okay.... but she was slightly dumb in some parts and i was just like ..why are you like this. So she has a phone with her, that won't charge because she's in this other world.... she has pictures she likes to look at to remember her family.. She keeps the phone ON during her entire time until it DIES and then proceeds to get sad it died........... if it were me I would have turned off the dang phone and turned on the phone when I felt like looking at the photos......
Okay so besides that she was a very strong lead, she is very opinionated, she turns the entire kingdom that isn't even her home, around and makes it better in the end.
The story in the end is okay but it wasn't like.. The Best story I've read.
Also the love interest kinda annoyed me lowkey forgot his name and don't want to find it.

This book was pretty good! A Curse So Dark and Lonely is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, and although you kind of know how the story is going to go, it was gripping, unpredictable and had me on the edge of my seat! I liked the characters and writing style (dual POVs are always great) but I felt like some of the pacing was off a bit and I am excited to get to know the characters more over the next couple of books. It was a pretty easy read that almost gave me The Selection and Sorcery of Thorns vibes at first but much better!

This is a solid 3.5 stars, but I’m rounding up to 4. The book was very readable, and I enjoyed the world building and the characters. The writing was good and sometimes very good, but every now and then there was just a little too much of bluntly telling the reader what is going on (Heavy Handedness). I know this is YA, but I think teens would get it. I’m not always a huge fan of angst though, so someone else might appreciate this.

I was disappointed in the ending. It felt forced into a sequel rather than growth into one. I also would have liked to see a different romantic pairing.
