Okay- I didn't actually finish the book. I know I know, but I wasn't able to finish it due to my lack of interest! I was excited to read this book and requested it at my local library and halfway through I didn't have the desire to read any more. I'm quite sad of the turnout, but I love the author.

4.5 Stars.
This book is aggressively John Green - Complicated metaphors, laughter and so many tears. In my opinion, it's sadder than TFIOS. What makes Looking for Alaska so beautiful is that all of the characters were so human, and nothing felt like someone had desperately tried to replicate teenaged emotion with a synthesiser. It's bold and it made me cry. Read this book.

ця історія для мене літня, тому що я не можу більше читати книжки про старшу школу під час навчання в універі (приносить біль і тугу по тим часам). і "в пошуках аляски" я ставлю тверді 4/5.

спочатку мене бісило чоловіче pov в цій книзі: головний герой Майлз такий собі недоінтелектуал, наче цікавиться історією, літературою і філософськими питаннями, але дії його все ж таки не інтелектуальні. 

але проблема не в цьому, проблема в описі Аляски Янг протягом книги. кожен раз, коли Аляску згадували, відчувався вайб manic pixie dream girl - троп, який був популярний під час написання книги. вона така загадкова, сексуальна, су-у-упер розумна і, звісно, ненавидить патріархат. спочатку мене просто виморажувало читати цей опис кожен раз, коли Майлз думав про неї. АЛЕ все ж таки я прийшла до висновку, що так і потрібно, адже pov то ЧОЛОВІЧЕ. плюс (величезний плюс) ми говоримо про підлітка, який романтизує усе навколо. 

сюжет цікавий, але, на мою думку, не дуже реалістично подає емоції людей при травматичних досвідах (не хочу ставити рев'ю під спойлери). при читанні ви отримаєте не дуже легку історію одного навчального року в приватній школі, з приколами та стосунками (як платонічними, так і романтичними) підлітків, які намагаються бути дорослими.
