Jacob is the best character, the last like 3 or 4 chapters could have fairly easily been removed and added to the next book. It could have them ended arriving to Paris (this isn't a spoiler: the next book is literally called "The Paris Mysteries"). The book also lacked a lot of focus, I feel like because there were so many mysteries for Tandy they just had to throw the solutions together and they don't feel satisfying at all.

Bem...

I kind of loved this a lot and I want an Uncle Jacob please. And though I'm not a fan of romances in my murder novels, I'm pulling for Tandy and James hardcore :)

I read this for a challenge for one of my GR groups. I'm glad I picked it up. It wasn't the greatest but it wasn't horrible, either. It entertained me and I'll go back and read the first book in this series, as well as the next one. I really liked Tandy, the main character, and her brothers and their guardian, Jacob. The only weakness I found were the two mysteries. The one about the private school girl murders was wrapped up so fast and randomly, and there was never any motive explained. I guess someone just wanted to kill private school girls?? No clue. As for the mystery of Tandy's brother, Matthew's girlfriend's murder, the killer reveal didn't really make sense to me given a scene earlier in the story. It felt like the killer was chosen by the roll of the dice, with no consistency to the story at all. Whatever, I didn't really care about the mystery as much as I just liked reading about Tandy and her teenaged drama.

I enjoyed reading the first book of this series back in January, so I decided it was about time to pick up the sequel The Private School Murders hoping it was going to be just as good. And while it's without doubt a super fast-paced book with a prose that is very easy to read, I felt like it suffered a bit from the weaker sequel syndrome. It seemed like there were too many different storylines squeezed into just one book, with the consequence that each storyline was only described quite superficially and some of them lacked credibility. Also, Tandoori is quite arrogant and it's difficult to like her. She was the same in the first book, but somehow she felt more annoying in The Private School Murders. The 'cases' she is trying to solve are still quite intriguing though; I just wish that at least the whole James/romance sub plot would have been left out... But then again I'm not really a sucker for romance in the first place. Overall I can't deny it's still a pretty decent sequel though.

WARNING: Possible spoilers! Please don’t read this summary if you haven’t read the first book of this series yet. I’ll keep the summary super short but it’s impossible to keep it completely spoiler-free…

After solving the case of her wealthy parents' mysterious deaths, Tandy Angel doesn't seem to be done with playing detective. Her brother Matthew stands on trial for murder and young girls are found murdered all around New York's Upper West side. Tandy is determined to use her skills to get to the bottom of both cases, although another case is still distracting her as well. The biggest mystery of all may be what actually happened to James Rampling, the son of a family enemy who Tandy fell in love and ran away with. She cannot seem to remember much about the whole affair, but she is desperate to find out more...

While this sequel was by no means as strong as the first book, it is still a pretty decent and superfast read. Not all of the storylines are all that credible, but most of the 'cases' are intriguing and the story reads like a train. The main character Tandoori (Tandy) is a quite annoying know-it-all, but she does seem to deliver in the end. If you are looking for an easy and entertaining mystery read, this series might just be the one for you.

I was thinking about giving it 2 stars but i took in consideration the fact that the MC is a 16-years old NY teenager who "confesses" her story. Still, i thought this book will be more criminal orientated and the cases won't be presented so simple. Moreover, i actually hoped for some real development of the characters and the cases but they were finished so fast and dumb-easily in like 20 pages...I really thought there will be more about this book but i've read far more intriguing YA books with teenagers as MC. Not to mention that whole "i'm a genius"/"crimes solver since kindergarten" kind of attitude can be a bit annoying. I normally read all the books in series when i've read 1 but i'm not sure whether i'll do it with this series. I really expected more :/

James oh dear James you never cease to amaze me. When he tells you that the pages really turn themselves its the truth. The beginning, the suspense, the build-up to the climax, and finally the epic climax. oh and then that one paragraph that tells you its not over yet. I love Tandy more and more i cant wait to read the next book.
