a bit more slice of life than i thought this one would be. i liked a few POV’s better than others (namely Eyas and Kip) but this was still a good read - the amount of positive queer rep in this is fantastic, as well as positive sex work rep, and i appreciated the connection to Ashby from the first book. where this lacked for me were Isabel's chapters; i didn't really care much for the alien she was hosting, but i loved the wholesome married lesbian grandmother content this gave us.

and it sort of sent me into a slump so it took me like 3 weeks to read rather than 3 days so that was a bummer

Such a quiet and purposeful book. Full of small stories about everyday people... but living in a far future that is so well depicted and described that you believe the mundanity. All the narrative threads do intertwine, but they take their time getting there. It was definitely about half the book before there was a hint of conflict. And the conflict was not even the main focus of the story, though I suppose it was in a way. Anyway, I’m not necessarily saying those are flaws, and I definitely loved a lot of aspects of this book. Anyway, definitely worth reading, though I think I liked the other two in the series better.

I love the Wayfarers series so much. It's nothing like any sci-fi series I have ever read and that's what makes it so special.

There is very little action like you would expect in other books in this genre. It is instead 100% character driven and setting driven.

Record of a Spaceborn few is no exception to this and it's probably my favorite in the series thus far. It was such a cozy read. I loved getting to know all of the characters. It felt like I was living their lives with them.

I just love this series so much. World building full of compassion. Story focused on the quiet work of caring for children and death and sex and diplomacy on space ships.
More! More!

My least favorite book in the series. Felt like a filler episode where there’s a lot of talking but not much happens. On its own 3.75 because it was an OK book, but as part of the series I’d give it maybe 3.5 (even 3.25) because it took a completely different turn than I hoped this series would be.

It took me a minute to pick this one up in the series. But, it’s probably my favorite. Archivists are such a common trope in fiction in a surface level way without much nuance or development - I loved this exploration of what our field might look like if we ended up in space. Such a beautiful book.
