Eisner will always be a visionary who paved the way of the best storytelling in comics. This book is a tremendous effort to compile the most representative tales of the Spirit, but it feels that somehow the task was too great and space too small.

A DC reprint on cheap paper, dig up the Kitchen Sink reprints if you can. Good contents though, may be all the Spirit you ever need.

It was great to get a sense of what Eisner did for comics and how he brilliantly used gutters and panels and things unique to comics to create interesting noir stories. Hoo boy was some if his stuff racist, though! Comics in the 40s, yiiiikes.
