In love with this collection. Was not that familiar with this poet’s work before I purchased & was ecstatic to connect so much with their yearning, thoughtful, aching voice. Looking forward to reading all of Fox’s future work!!

Absolutely beautiful poetry. Part Jewish mysticism, part Sapphic verse, full of grief, longing, love, and defiance, I thoroughly enjoyed these poems. The poet has such a clear voice, and artfully blends her Texan roots and her religious experiences and the triumph and trauma of womanhood together to create a spellbook full of violets and rainbows and oil slicks and oceans, in which at any given moment either rebirth or drowning is possible. These poems touched me deeply.

My favorites were:
"selkie."
"iv: the emperor."
"bitter herbs."
"the queen is in the field."
"inquisition."
