Great book  but with a very surprising amount of trauma (including death of a family member, child sexual assault)

‘Girl is obsessed with dickhead of a guy who uses his trauma as an excuse to be a shit dad and tears down every woman that’s ever been near him because she’s jealous he had a life before her’ pick-me vibes for reallll (wrote that note halfway through reading but it pretty much sticks).
This book could literally be half the length, not only does the author love writing pages and pages of unnecessary conversation but also likes to over-explain every plot point. Underwhelming and drawn out ending imo also.
I read this book as a read-along with a friend who’d read some other books by the same author and enjoyed them but even she agreed that the plot was a bit insane and all over the place.
I guess it was interesting as I never knew where it was going😂

What a lovely story! I’ve got to admit that it was really hard for me to get into it at first. I really cared about Sonny and his story and fell in love with him easily, but I had a much harder job with feeling for Hannah. Still don‘t know if I do. I anticipated most of the plot twists and turns the story took, but it was still nicely written. Also, their friendship with Archie and Matilda is top-notch chosen family stuff. Can‘t wait to read more by Paige Toon!

“Some people believe that it’s possible to fall in love simply by gazing into another persons eyes but Hannah, who spends her working life staring into the eyes of strangers, has never felt anything out of the ordinary for any of her clients. Then she meets Sonny and a spark ignites” - Paige Toon ✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars

I adored my first Toon read a few months ago (Someone I used to know) and so JUMPED at the chance to listen to this on Borrowbox. It did not disappoint. Toon is quickly becoming one of my new favourite authors. 📖

This one was WAY more romance heavy, in fact 70% of the novel is slow burn WHICH IS RIGHT UP MY STREET. The tension was, a lot. Toon does such a great job fleshing out her characters, I felt I knew them so well - even the side characters. Which I think it’s rare in romance reads. 👩‍❤️‍👨

Most of all, I adore that Toon weaves in such deep backstories! It’s these little (or pretty big) twists that make a warm fuzzy read into something gripping and memorable. I finished this book a few weeks ago and it’s still fresh in my mind. 💕

Her books won’t be for everyone as I feel like they’re a ‘relaxing’ read but do require checking the TWs before reading. Some topics can be pretty deep, which may not be what some readers expect from a cozy read. So, heads up. 🧠

Can’t wait for the next Paige Toon read, any recommendations? 🥰

⚠️ TW: death, child abuse, rape
