im not sure there was any explicitly new info here but ronans voice is very strong so this was still a powerful read. the audiobook performance is a bit weird bc there are all these heavy and serious discussions but he drops his voice to be more feminine and it sounds a bit silly and mocking sometimes but i dont think it was intended to be

The pacing of this book made it engaging despite the gravity of the information being discussed. Farrow is straightforward with his explanation of his own history with the issue of sexual assault, growing up in the shadow of what Woody Allen, their father, did to his sister Dylan, and the media shit storm that ensued. Intwining his own story, growing as a person and apologizing to his sister for the role he played in the covering up of her own trauma, kept this story grounded and away from the sensationalized scandalous text it could have become. In 2024, it is especially interesting and upsetting to see the intentional disruption of American news news to destroy information and skew political outcomes as done by Israel's government-backed Black Cube.

“In the end, the courage of women can’t be stamped out. And stories—the big ones, the true ones—can be caught but never killed.”

the bar for men is so low that it’s basically a tripping hazard in Hell, yet here they are, limbo dancing with the devil

this was a very powerful book and i admire everyone who risked so much to finally get this story out. i honestly went into this somewhat blind. I knew about weinstein and what he had done but not much more. I had to google ronan farrow and read up about the whole story a little more while reading this. there were also a Lot of names to keep track of that are probably very easy to follow when you live in the states and keep up with the media and networks. But for me as a non American it took me awhile to get the names straight. this was still a well written and engaging account of how the weinstein story got published and what that process revealed about the silence around powerful predators.

i also listened to the audiobook and you can tell that farrow has done podcasts before. there was music played at the end of every part and he had different voices for different people he quoted. overall felt like a true crime podcast at times and i mean that in a very positive way
