As a korean drama lover, I found this book SO enjoyable and i resonated so much with the main character. The book is predictable but I liked that. It was light and fun, much like your typical Korean drama. I especially enjoyed the effort to include references to the Korean language and culture.

Also, loved the shout outs to OC and UC Irvine, my alma mater!!

This was a cute, contemporary novel about a girl who tries to get the perfect boy by following a list of rules that she compiled while binge-watching Korean-dramas and the chaos that ensues, as well as love, as a result of her plan. 3.5/5 Stars.

Desi meet Luca! The new mysterious student who takes her world by storm but they have little in common. Desi utilises the key storyline arcs of a K Drama to make Luca fall in love with her. These steps are fool proof and even the most clumsy of lovers can figure it out...or can they?!

This is a feel good, quick read, pop love story. I'm glad that I finally got around to reading this one.

I was expecting more.

I have my personal preferences about K-dramas and books, of course. But I was looking for a story that K drama lovers and people who don´t know so much about the media could find interesting and funny, but I didn´t find it in this book.

"I believe in a thing called love" presents her protagonist as a girl who hasn´t have any romantic experience, likes to see K-drama and believes everything is possible with a plan, but when your plan for getting the boy that you know nothing about have three intents of killing him, perhaps you should examine it.

Desi (The protagonist) has a list with 24 steps to true love. Which involve, and I paraphrase:

4. Let the guy get to you whether it´s from annoyance or obsession.

8. Be caught in an obviously lopsided Love Triangle.

Obviously, she didn´t have any real side love interest, so she makes a fake one, and make him kiss her in a party for him to see and make him "jealous".

10. Find out the guy´s big secret.

12. Life-threating event makes him/you realize how real your love is.

14. Lock that baby in with a kiss!

23. Take drastic measures for your happy ending.

All of this steps could have been use to reevaluate how we see romantic gestures and the behaviors of girls and boys in this situations. But no, in the end she has his happy ever after even when she almost kill him, lied to him, manipulated the situations and all of this with a romantic setting.

So, yeah. I didn't like it. I almost didn't finished it. But if you want to read it, go ahead.

It has been a while since I really had a good laugh over a book, and this book was such a breath of fresh air. It is not all lighthearted, but it is whimsical and hilarious, with a whole lot of heart underneath it. Desi Lee is an overachiever with a focused approach on everything she does, and is the soccer team captain, student government president, straight A student and science fair award winner...she excels in everything except boys. And she decides to use her methods and steps to get the boy she likes, and hilarity ensues as her plans both work and backfire. It is an homage to K dramas and their fans, and I was in love with the way her father is by her side, supporting her through every single thing she does. Underneath the overachiever is a girl who needs to have everything in control after what she has lost, with a whole lot of heart and the intentions to make her father proud. It is a feel-good comedy suitable for all who love K dramas indeed!

This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and I was not disappointed. I was constantly laughing while reading about Desi's "flailures". Aka flirting failures.

This book was so cute and I flew through it. Even though I don't really watch K-dramas, I really, really liked and appreciated this book.

Desi was so, so cute and I loved her! Even if she was a little more than extreme at times. Her and her friends were so cute and a little wild. (Also, I would not mind at all if Fiona had her own spin off. ;) *wink wink*)

The only thing I kind of had a problem with was the ending. It just didn't seem all that realistic given the situation. It also seemed to have been wrapped up very quickly, which was a little strange for the flow of the story.
Spoiler On one page, Luca was mad and saying that he didn't think he could ever trust anything she says. And on the very next page they are kissing. It doesn't seem very likely that that should have happened. *throws hands in the air* But what do I know!

I genuinely don't know how to rate this one.

Yes, it was cute and adorable.
Yes, I laughed out loud at times.
Yes, I loved Desi's relationship with her dad.
Yes, I loved all the K-drama references.

And yeah, I know that K-dramas tend to be a tad over the top. So I knew this book was going to be based of those tropes and clichés. And I genuinely wouldn't have minded that. But I can't give this book a high rating after all the things Desi did. Honestly, so dangerous! Like, what the hell are you even thinking?? She was misleading and manipulative, and quite honestly, dangerous.

So yeah, I still enjoyed this book. And I loved all the references to K-dramas, and learning a bit about Korean culture, and I adore Desi's dad. And the fact that this wasn't a love triangle. And while I know that this was supposed to be based on clichés, it still bothered me. Because even though it was mentioned once that Desi thought she really shouldn't have done this and it was wrong, it didn't really have any consequences and she did it again afterwards. So yeah, I wish I loved this more than I did.

It's still cute and adorable, and really funny at times. But it's certainly not without its problems -in my opinion, of course.
