The Atlas SixĀ is nothing like I have ever read before.Ā It's about a secret society, knowledge, and power.Ā The six characters selected have different abilities and two of the characters (Libby and Nico) already know each other.Ā I loved seeing Libby and Nico's complex relationship develop.Ā There were so many things that happened in the book but the story was easy to follow and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really wanted to like this book. I like the idea of everything. It sounds so good conceptually, but it just fell flat. There's no real world development. The magic system is very vague which pushed me to the point of not caring about it. This is kind of like a bottle-mystery episode of a tv show.Ā
I did end up finishing it and I thought the ending was probably the best part. The group goes through several little revelations but that are kind of explained but they aren't impactful or meaningful because you aren't invested in the characters. The characters were just kind of 2d. I wanted to like them but even their flaws were lacking in depth.Ā
The main thing is that there are hints at a different world but not any evidence. The magic which initially drew me in, lacked luster and any concrete definition. The characters individual specialties were eventually discussed and that was kind of interesting but the mechanics behind the magic while explained were not very relevant to understanding. Ā

It felt like this book was setting up a series. Characters are super in their own heads, and yet Iām still not sure what their motivations are and have a hard time empathizing with them. The world was so interesting and it felt like an unexplored opportunity. The plot was very slow, and not much really happened. I wanted more action and less philosophizing, and I still canāt decide if I am even rooting for any of the characters.

In The Atlas six by Olivie Blake, we follow six characters, each one has their own agenda but all of them must walk through the doors of the Alexandrian society in order to gain access to means necessary to succeed their personal goals. How far are you willing to go to get what you want? Are you ready to sacrifice your morals? To sacrifice your soul? Would you sacrifice anotherās soul?
I still cannot decide if I liked the book or disliked it, or just didnāt care for it. It took me too long to become interested in the story; It startedĀ getting intriguing after 200 pages. I believe itās a bit predictableā¦ I guessed almost everything. It is a unique story, but the characters seemed mediocre to me. The author was so concerned in convincing us of everyoneās āgray moralityā that I couldnāt distinguish any personalities within them. It felt like I read everything from the same POV but with just different āmagicalā abilities each time. Although I have a feeling that itās going to be improved in the next books. Maybe I just need more time with them! I think I need to see how they behave outside of the society, how they are without one another, what they become on their own.
I liked the writing. The dialogue was pleasing as well! But Iām not sure if itās enough for me to continue with the second bookā¦

Reading the first pages I didn't have many expectations but I was nicely surprised by the complexity of the characters. Now I am kind of curious about how will the story continue, although the revelation made me feel like the antagonist turned into a simple caricature of a villain (hopefully their motivations and personality will be further explored so they feel more complex and interesting)

While I wanted to really love this book, I just couldnāt really get into it. It had great potential, but the pacing of the book was all over the place and I couldnāt really relate to any of the characters (except maybe Libby a little bit). The author would go on for pages talking in circles and using really flowery language that I found to be unnecessary. I would say that last 100 pages or so is when the plot actually picked up and I started to somewhat enjoy it, but the plot was still unclear at points due to the unneeded flowery prose. The characters were really hard to likeāit felt like if you put a bunch of stuck up pureblood slytherins in a room together. I felt like Reina was a character with so much wasted potential. Libby and Nicoās potential academic-rivals-to-lovers arc was the one thing that kept me reading, and even THAT didnāt come to fruition when it felt so obvious. Not sure if that is explored in the next book, but I doubt I will end up reading it to find out.
