A look at the different customs, superstitions and rituals that rural English communities practiced and still sometimes practice today. Fascinating stuff. The author gets most of his information first hand in oral histories and careful research. It shows too. His writing style is engaging and it's obvious he's talking about people he likes. Focuses on the house, farming and the horse

A very good read on old rural English customs. There are references to M. Murray and R. Graves which need to be taken with a huge pinch of salt, but overall it was an enjoyable and educational read.
