This is the true story of the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, told by Elizabeth Smart.
Elizabeth was only 14 years old when she awoke in the middle of the night to a man looming over her bed holding a knife to her throat.  Brian David Mitchell was a man down on his luck, or so the family thought when they provided work for him on their property a while before, not knowing that he had an ulterior motive.
Brian David Mitchell abducted Elizabeth and held her captive for 9 months along with his wife Wanda Eileen Barzee before she was eventually discovered and rescued.  She indured being raped repetedly, being startved, being subjected to neglect and emotional abuse.  Yet somehow this incredible little girl managed to come out of this and channel herself into becoming an advocate for other abused Women and children.  The audio version is narrated by Elizabeth Smart herself and it is incredible to hear her put her thoughts and emotions into this story.  It’s amazing to hear how even as a little girl, she could see right through who Brian David Mitchell was.
Although this is a heavy topic and horrible story, Elizabeth tells it with class and without the gory details.

The religious narrative at the end should be read with cation, especially for those that have a toxic relationship with religion and often feel religious guilt.
