I am not a prude. Really I am not. I love the female body in all forms. But, what is it with European male cartoonist that they feel it is perfectly normal for women to shed their clothes and run around for half or more of the story almost completely naked? It throws me out of the story, as I wonder how they could be walking or running around barefoot, and bare chested.

Having gotten that off my chest (no pun intended), the story is ok. Charlie is trying to find her brother who has gone into the underworld to prove it exists. The first half of the story is her journey to find him, and all the people she takes with her, and meets along the way. The first half of the story she manages to keep her clothes on.

The story itself is ok. It just didn't draw me in, because although I cared about Charlie, I did not care about her brother, or any of the other people along the way, and then the story went off the rails and Charlie is in her undies, and the story went down hill from there.

Obviously not written for me. YMMV.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

A journey to the center of the earth-type story, but more bizarre and with beautiful art work. Eerie and left me with questions, in a good way.

Had great potential but it just ended up falling flat.

Do you ever read a book and realize that the Venn diagram of you and its target audience are two distinct circles? Well this was that book for me. Very creepy, surrealist, and absurdist - and definitely not written for me!

A beautifully illustrated graphic novel that started off interesting, and then mysterious, and then just really, really weird. The protagonist was full of agency and by far the most enjoyable part of the story, but unfortunately nothing could really save how off the rails the story went.

Gorgeous, intricate art, but I found the story a bit confusing. Maybe I'm too used to trying to analyze works in terms of what do the authors 'really' mean in this story. (Bad acid flashbacks to college lit classes: I usually prefer my trees to be trees, not symbols of the author's existential angst about her early potty training experiences.)

The artwork alone makes this worth a look.
