I am unwell after this book - Kalen's love for Tea has me in tears.
At the beginning of this book I found it slow but so much happened and now I understand why everything took place the way that it did.
I loved the author's writing! Perfect amount of action, plot twists and love!
I will think of Kalen and Tea forever..

I almost didn't finish this series because I slogged through the second book. However, I decided I was curious as to how it ended after seeing some good reviews. I am happy that I finished and felt it was a great conclusion to the trilogy. It had been awhile since I read the others and I was a bit confused as to the various timelines and it took me a few chapters to figure out what was going on. I would definitely read this author again. I did see she has some new books on the horizon!

The end of this book broke me.

Tea is such a complicated character but by the end of this trilogy I adore her. The number of things she goes through over these three books is heart wrenching and yet she is so willing to sacrifice for those she loves.

The reveal and twist in this book had me on edge, I love the way it is written with two timelines only revealing certain parts of the story, to see who really betrayed Tea and actually surprising me by the end.

I absolutely loved the relationships in this book between siblings, friends, lovers and mentors.

The creatures too, the daevas were brilliant in the whole series.

I love that it all came together at the end and I wasn’t left questioning anything, no loose ends!!

The Bone Witch Trilogy review

“To be perfect without suffering means no change. If you know neither hurt nor hardship, then you will not know the strength they can summon within a person. What is life’s meaning if you cannot distinguish between happiness and sorrow ?"

Rin Chupeco created a trilogy like no other.
And let me say, it’s not short of love, magic, tragedy, secrets and necromancy.
All the loose ends are wrapped up effortlessly and brilliantly at the end.
This felt like a Villain Origin Story and I loved the vibe !

“Patience is the long pause between action and its consequences. Lengthier silences open you up to introspection, and I’ve known a lot of solitude.”

What to expect 🌑✨
- A fantasy full of magic, creatures, witches and prophecies.
- The world-building and magic system are well-thought and woven into the complex plot.
- Each nation has its own cultural specificities and beliefs and the asha’s education system is inspired by the geisha’s.
- A morally grey and badass FMC with a softie’s heart and a strong determination to right past wrong whatever the cost.
- A perfect and effortless LGBTQ+ representation

"A life worth dying for is a life worth living after all."

What I loved the most 🖤

- The dual POV which alternates between the present of the Bard and the past as told to him by Tea of the Embers. I genuinely love how we discover her life and the events prior to her exile through the story she’s telling the Bard.

- The mystery unravels slowly and we discover it piece by piece. We put together the complicated dynamics of the present and unfold the events of the past at the same time. There was the right amount of hints and foreshadowing to pique my interest and make me theorize all the possibilities.

- The unexpected romance that serves the plot. This was a chef’s kiss enemies to lovers. The balance between romance, politics, action, and character interaction/development was honestly great.

“There is no greater strength than the ability to understand and accept your own flaws.”

I think this was a fitting conclusion, although the pacing was a bit uneven to me. It moved very quickly in the second half with not a lot of time for the reveals to breathe and sink in. I still enjoyed the back and forth format a lot and found this series to be an easy, engaging read. I look forward to reading this trilogy again in the future now that I know the ending and seeing how the pieces were laid throughout the 3 books.
