The chips are down in this second of the series (new readers must read 'plague year' before starting this novel). Carlson's writing improved. His section capturing a survival march had a nice prose uplift, with elements that moved toward capturing 'transporting the reader' like the opening section of [b:On the road.|482509|On the road. I tried. I have read the second book in this trilogy and won't be moving on. I simply don't care. It's more of the same as Plague Year. If you want to see a review of this book, just read the first one. Meh.
The sequel to Plague Year, which I read a little while ago. I liked this book too. This book starts pretty much right where the other left off. A small group of survivors on the ground in California trying to get a possible cure for the nanite plague to others while at the same time remnants of government forces are trying to get the possible cure for themselves in order to top dogs in the new world order.
And Russia and China invade California.
Quite a bit of action. Large masses of bugs and snakes, case you like that sort of thing. Gutsy survivors doing what they gotta do.
