Read before the Bone Houses, same world and chronologically first, but very limited tieins so really think this is the rare case it does not matter which you read first.
I enjoyed this more, but The Bone Houses was a more unique story

Moderate: Emotional abuse, Toxic relationship, and Gaslighting

LOVED every second of this. Why did it take me so long to read it?! The mixture of whimsical magic and heist story was perfect and the characters felt like old friends by the end. While a part of me wants another story with these characters, the ending was perfect in its own special way. BRB on my way to read everything Emily Lloyd-Jones has ever written.

I'm so ashamed to admit that I never thought that I could genuinely enjoy a stand-alone fantasy novel, I was proven wrong.
First things first, it took me '10' days to read this because the first week of school happened and I was too busy to read and picked it back up again the other day and finished it in about two days to be exact. So don't let my 'dates' scare you away I really didn't start reading it till a week after I 'started' it.
Now as for the book...
Loved every single aspect of it. Especially the corgi ;) I mean that is something I totally would do, create a background story of dogs just so I could include a loyal companion. How could I not be absolutely enthralled by a heist created by a group of misfits? I don't know how the author did such a beautiful job creating a fantasy world with HISTORY and a FUTURE in only one book. It completely blows my mind how authentically this work was written. I cannot believe the adventure that I just endured was all held within one book.

Huge thanks to @thenovl for sending this my way! (all thoughts are my own)
.
The Drowned Woods is a stand-alone fantasy book set in the world of The Bone Houses. I read The Bone Houses a few months ago and absolutely loved it...and fell in love with the writing of author Emily Lloyd-Jones.
.
The Drowned Woods is the story of Mererid...Mer...who is the last living water diviner. Mer was once bound to the princes service...and while there she was used (unknowingly) to poison wells causing so many deaths. When she discovered this she began her life on the run. One day she is found by her old handler Renfrew. He too has escaped the princes service and has a proposition for Mer...work together to bring down the prince. They collect an interesting crew to work together to bring down the prince. Together they hope to find the magical well that keeps prince's lands safe!
.
I got completely lost in this book. It was immediately so captivating! Packed with magic, fae, action, adventure, danger around every corner.. just loved this! This one had less spooky factor than The Bone Houses but no less fast-paced and exciting!
.
The Drowned Woods releases in August and I def recommend checking this one out!
