BORING! Started strong but just got so dull. zero plot. Felt like a memoir of the world’s most beige family. No real magic and like 5 set ups for twist, but they just fell flat.

Fascinating interweaving of four stories and self-fulfilling prophecies and what it means to live your life. Not my usual genre of book, but it was really a fascinating read.

When I first picked this up I was a little worried that the "how would you live if you knew when you die" trope would feel stale and redundant. That was not the case for The Immortalists. I felt engaged and entertained by each of the four characters. How they lived their lives relative to each other and the ways they were influenced by the date which their death was foretold made for an excellent read. I have enjoyed wondering whether the fortune teller who gave the characters their death dates actually had prescient powers, or if, as one of the characters notes, thoughts have wings.

Simon and Klara were my two favorite characters. I especially enjoyed Simon's story. Heart wrenching and liberating, an account of what life was like in late 1970's San Francisco.
