I'm not sure about this current trend in poetry of writing depressing "love" poems to some mysterious person. To me, it always comes off melodramatic and demands the reader be invested in some relationship without any details of it. It's supposed to be something anyone can relate to, I'm sure; just sub in your own partner and voila! However, I find it off-putting, generic, and impersonal, and it's not even a unique topic. It reminds me of [b:I Still Want It|25756917|I Still Want It|Derrick Jaxn|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1442135681s/25756917.jpg|45600871], another book I particularly disliked.

But beyond even the subject matter, I found the actual writing to be uninteresting and clunky. I'm not even entirely sure I would classify a lot of this as poetry. Instead, it's a sentence or two that sounds like a really immature person waxing philosophical about the nature of relationships or love.

When it comes to poetry books, I make note of particular poems that I find particularly interesting, but my little paper just has many page numbers with "ew" and "eye-roll" next to them. On one hand, I'm really disappointed by this collection, but on the other, I am glad that I was able to review the book without purchasing it, especially since I had heard so many excellent things about the author that I had put several of his books onto my to-read shelf. Now, unfortunately, I will be removing them.

I've read several poetry collections this year, and this one is just such a terrible letdown. To those interested in it, I would recommend skipping it and checking something like the vastly superior [b:Depression & Other Magic Tricks|34594982|Depression & Other Magic Tricks|Sabrina Benaim|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1492920202s/34594982.jpg|55737806].

nie ma sensu tego czytać jeżeli nie jesteście spragnionymi miłości 15-latkami z niską samooceną, które nie wierzą, że miłość je spotka.

A great collection: some I connected with more than others, nothing complex or pretentious, just a lovely collection that's accessible for poetry newbies like myself

I have come to love poetry due to the new rise of many poets sharing their work on social media, I have become to appreciate the art and the arrow it is to the heart.

So many poems in here were my absolute favorites, some failed with their impact but most delivered it so brilliantly, it feels like it is not knocking on your heart's doorway with their gentle thoughts but tearing it apart by the weight of their truth.

A heart's ache is universal. I love how the smallest seemingly insignificant thoughts are so universal. I like that our pain is not our alone - that there is another soul, far away in this wide world or perhaps right next to you, feeling this exact pain. And that they can confirm we can go on. That we are never truly alone.

I had great difficulty to narrow my favorites down to a single poem, so here are two greatest ones from each section:

Notes:
- This collection was a bit hit or miss for me tbh. What really hit, hit in a way that matched a lot of my own personal feelings atm. But what didn't hit really just fell a bit flat and cringey to me.
- Overall feeling: neutral. But definitely highlighted a lot of lines that resonated with me.
