Way too long, way too slow, none of the characters are likeable, I couldn't do it.

As a lover of vampire fiction in general it was really cool to go back to this and see all the different ways Interview's DNA has permeated the genre. That said, this was a book with a lot of highs and lows for me. On one hand, Rice's writing is beautiful, and the first half of the book was exactly the kind of gothic horror I like; however, the later half falls victim to melodrama that killed much of the atmosphere I loved and that brought to the forefront the many flaws in Rice's world building. As it stands, I don't know if I'll continue the series, but I am at least glad I finally gave this one a go.

I hate this book. It's absolutely disturbing how this woman writes children's bodies. Rice's writing style is descriptive but with this subject matter it is a fault.

Dowry of Blood has a similar atmosphere with way less children involved (none). If you want this style without the child then read that instead.
